Dade City Asks For Help Naming Its Newest Park

The City of Dade City is asking for community input on the naming of its newest 2.3 acre park. Park improvements are being funded through many sources, including Florida Sports Coast, Penny for Pasco, and the State of Florida. The park is located at 37800 Church Avenue, at the beginning of the National Historical Church Street District.

The City’s unofficial project name used for the park site has been "New Community Park".

Now through December 31, the City is accepting recommendations for the park’s official name. Residents are asked to consider the following suggestions in submitting a name:

  • Location
  • Historical or cultural significance
  • Natural or geological features
  • Provides a link to the City’s Heritage
  • Exclusions:   Naming associations with smoking or vaping products, alcohol, drugs, sexually explicit content or innuendos, vulgar language, contraceptives, religious organizations, political candidates, or partisan organization

Responses will be presented to the City Commission for discussion and consideration for approval.

About the Park’s amenities (present and planned):

  • Inclusive and ADA Accessible playground equipment
  • Splash Pad
  • The Spoke – Visitor’s Information Center
  • Outdoor amphitheater
  • Resting areas
  • Bicycle amenities
  • Public Art
  • Open Space
  • Nature trail walk

Progress is being made on this site. The Spoke recently completed construction. This building was funded through a grant provided by the Tourist Development Council (Florida Sports Coast) and Pasco County Board of Commissioners.  A grant has been awarded for the installation of the playground equipment from the State of Florida’s Community Development Block Grant Program, and installation will be complete in the next two years. City Commission authorized a design-build for the Splash Pad through FY21-22’s budget process; staff expects to get this project underway in the next calendar year. Other improvements will be made as funding becomes available.
