City Manager

The City Charter directs that the administrative role in the budgetary process
falls to the City Manager as chief administrative officer. In conjunction with
the Finance Director, the City Manager ensures that the budget calendar is
accomplished and budget information is accurate, complete and presented in a
common and understandable format. He issues guidelines regarding cost limitations,
evaluates departmental requests as they relate to policy guidelines, and balances
expenditure requests with available revenues.
The City Manager also oversees the two divisions of Safety Services:
1.) Fire Prevention/Inspection Services including site inspections of commercial businesses, review
of construction plans, and compliance to Fire and Life Safety codes applicable to the Business Community.
2.) Code Enforcement Services provides education and
compliance enforcement of the ordinances and laws to both
residential and commercial communities with the City limits
James D. Class
City Clerk/Finance Director

The City
Clerk/Finance department has various responsibilities that are
prescribed by the City Charter and various ordinances. The City Clerk/Finance
department provides direct services to citizens, businesses, and other governmental
units as well as support services for other City departments.

City Engineer/Public Works Director

The City Engineer is the Public Utilities/ Water & Sewer Administrator and oversees
the operation and the maintenance of the Dade City wastewater treatment plant as well
as seven public drinking water supply wells and two ground storage facilities. The
City Engineer and plant personnel are charged with the large responsibility of
protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public and by providing the highest
quality of potable water at the most economical cost. The City Engineer also provides
engineering support to all departments. The Public Works Director provides supervision
and guidance of City personnel under the Public Works Department; manages operations of
streets, parks, cemetery, City garage, public buildings and sanitation within the City;
issues work orders for the upkeep of public building maintenance; answers citizen
complaints; provides technical assistance to the City Manager in developing and researching
varied projects for the improvement of the facilities and services available to the citizens.

Police Chief

The Police Chief
is charged with the responsibility to ensure that his department provide
timely and professional emergency assistance, uphold public safety, and protect life and
property and to serve all residents, visitors and business owners in a fair and prudent manner.
Karla S. Owens
City Attorney

The City Attorney
along with the Labor Attorney and any other special counsel, provide legal advice
to the City Commission and the administrative staff of the City. This includes reviewing contracts,
preparing ordinances and representing the City in certain litigation.
Michael Sherman
Community
Development Director
The Community Development
Director provides planning and zoning functions, including maintenance of the City's comprehensive
plan, and administration of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This department also provides
technical and/or clerical support to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning Board, the Redevelopment
Advisory Committee, and the Community Redevelopment Agency.
